This book was minimally useful but I studied the MALC Syllabus extensively with the core ITIL Publications in advance of receiving this book. I read through the book in two sittings, but did not use it again. The greatest usefulness would be to candidates who do not have the core books (an unfathomable thought to say the least, having reached this level in the ITIL Scheme). After passing the examination leading to ITIL Expert, I briefly reviewed this book again in comparison to what was actually taught in the course I attended (vendor was GK). The contents of the book matched almost exactly the content of the course I attended. Four stars as the book did not really add anything new due to my preparation before receiving the book. It could be a five star book for those who do not have the time to prepare in advance of their actual course.

Good 10,000-ft overview.

I read this book the weekend prior to my MALC class. It provides a good 10,000-foot overview of the MALC course, however, the case study at the back of the book is not the case study used by the MALC class or the test. Yes, the case study for the test is the exact same case study used in class and for the sample exams.

If you are taking the Managing Across the Lifecycle exam, this is a good read. My only complaint is, it took a really long time for this book to arrive. So, make sure you order it several weeks in advance.

John Stevens is Professor of Buddhist Studies and Aikido instructor at Tohoku Fukushi University in Sendai, Japan. He is the author or translator of over twenty books on Buddhism, Zen, Aikido, and Asian culture. He has practiced and taught Aikido all over the world.

Morihei Ueshiba's teachings about The Art of Peace bring to balance and equilibrium two extreme entities in oriental martial arts philosophy, being in the other end Sun Tzu's masterpiece The Art of War. This book reflects the different fascinating paths taken by Moriehi towards an encounter with himself, the martial arts that he developed, and his unique understanding of the universe.

John Stevens, who I must admit has written many great Aikido books, outdoes himself with this book. With a feeling of actual fondness, Stevens seems to capture Founder Morihei's human side without in any way diminishing his almost supernatural presence. This is a must read for any follower of the art.

About the Author
Kenneth Cushner is Professor of Education in the College and Graduate School of Education, Health and Human Services at Kent State University, Kent, Ohio, USA. In addition to this text, Dr. Cushner is author or editor of several books and articles in the field of intercultural education and training, including: Intercultural Student Teaching: A Bridge to Global Competence, (2007, Rowman Littlefield); Human Diversity in Action: Developing Multicultural Competencies in the Classroom, 3rd edition (2006, McGraw-Hill); International Perspectives on Intercultural Education (1998, Lawrence Erlbaum Associates); Improving Intercultural Interactions: Modules for Cross-Cultural Training Programs, volume 2 (with Richard Brislin, Sage Publications, 1997), and Intercultural Interactions: A Practical Guide, 2nd edition (with Richard Brislin, Sage Publications, 1996). A former East-West Center Scholar, he is a frequent contributor to the professional development of educators through writing, workshop presentations, and travel program development. He is a Founding Fellow and Past-President of the International Academy for Intercultural Research, and past Director of COST―the Consortium for Overseas Student Teaching, which regularly sends students to student teach in 16 countries. In his spare time, Dr. Cushner enjoys music (percussion and guitar), photography, and travel. He has developed and led intercultural programs on all seven continents.

Philip Safford, Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Case Western Reserve University, is Emeritus Professor and former chair of Special Education at Kent State University. Prior to earning his Ph.D. through the Combined Program in Education and Psychology at the University of Michigan, with specialization in special education and child development, he had been a teacher and administrator in residential treatment programs for children with emotional disorders. Dr. Safford has authored or edited six books and numerous articles dealing with special education history, early intervention for young children with disabilities, and related topics. He has directed or co-directed a number of training, research, and demonstration projects in special education supported by federal and state grants.

Averil McClelland is currently Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Cultural Foundations of Education program in the College and Graduate School at Kent State University from which she received her Ph.D. Dr. McClelland has had extensive experience in curriculum design and program evaluation, as well as experience with addressing issues of gender and education and cultural diversity in education. In addition to this text, she is the author of The Education of Women in the United States: A Guide to Theory, Teaching, and Research (Garland, 1992), as well as a number of articles in scholarly journals. She received the Distinguished Teaching award from Kent State University in 1996, and has a long-standing relationship with the National First Ladies Library, where she develops web-based curricula based on the lives of the nation’s 44 First Ladies. Her special interests are the history, sociology, and politics of education, the reconstruction of teacher education, and internationalizing the college curriculum for pre-service and practicing teachers.

Not Impressed

This was the textbook for my graduate level Multiculturalism class last semester. It had some decent ideas and information, but had a very clear and obvious political bias that I found very distracting. Additionally, the text often stated statistics on some hot button issues (ex. how many Americans are Christians) without ever listing the source for the numbers (the statistics seemed questionable already).

Amazing the thin

Holman's careful research into Karl Friedrich Abel and his small London circle forms the core of this book. A thorough compilation of huge quantities of data about the period after the end of the French 17C kings until and including the rediscovery of the gamba by the Dolmetsches. Amazing the thin, but surviving trail throughout those centuries! Thank goodness the enlightenment gave rise to a sense of historic necessity which made it possible for so many threads of information to survive the two World Wars.

Surreal...an origami book with no pictures or diagrams. Not even a picture of what you are supposedly folding. Nothing but narrative. This is the most pathetic and useless origami book ever published. It is totally worthless. I would not even rate it 1 star but can't go lower than 1 star. Don't waste your time even sampling the book.

Very clear instructions.

The instructions in this book are among those that most impress my friends when I make them. There are explanation of the level of verbal instruction; however some of the sets of folds are very complex and the verbal instructions provide that much needed extra to understand what is going on. This is a very cool book with lots of cool instructions! Sometimes the diagrams in many books can get a little confusing, but you'll get the hang of it. Most people will be able to find something to make, but I would only suggest this book for a non-beginner. If you are willing to look past these objections, the finished models themselves are frequently amazing. This origami book had so many different options and levels for origami! I would definitely suggest buying origami paper to go with it though.

A must-read to strengthen or heal your marriage

This book gives hope, practical help and encouragement for anyone either married or getting ready to get married. Understand the dynamics of how a work relationship or another innocuous friendship can turn harmful fast - and how to prevent it or stop it in its tracks.

It's not just for the relationship-challenged

I stumbled upon this book and it sparked thoughts of a buried area of discontent in my 20 year relationship with my husband – his irritability when I have after work dinner or a drink with any younger male business colleague. While I would be hesitant to have that type of interaction with a male my age or older, I find that I drop the protocol because I relate to all younger males as younger brothers since I was raised with a house of them.

The Bakers’ insightful and detailed book gave me a better understanding of the dynamics between my husband, myself, and possibly the younger males. Will I still socialize with them? Yes, but going forward I’d set in place some pre-emptive boundaries and have at least one more person present. Read the book and you’ll understand it’s not because I can’t or the other person can’t be trusted. The Bakers’, in a non-judgmental way, layout the subtle issues involved despite pure intentions.

The book also served as a catalyst to reopen the conversation with my husband and the outcome was very positive. While we’ve both been physically and emotionally faithful to each other, the faithful piece does get wobbly at times such as conversations with my sister. I’m now a wiser and more supportive wife thanks to this book – and all along I thought I was pretty darn good. Every marriage, even strong ones, would benefit from this book.

Highly Recommend

This book should be read by everyone who is married or considering getting married which is just about everyone. With about half of all marriages ending in divorce, porn flooding the net, and dating sites being used by married people to have affairs, the best way to keep from having an affair and ruining your life is to nip it in the bud. So "affair proof" your life by reading this book and applying the principles laid out in a very easy to read manner. Definitely worth the download.
